Going into 2019, I really only have ONE major goal…to increase my income (mostly via my online businesses). However, I have several intentions/resolutions/habits I would like to work on.
I’ve been obsessed with the idea of improving by 1% daily. I broke down these little intentions of mine by category: personal development, health/fitness, finances, and side hustles. These areas of my life are my main priorities in life right now. Of course I could set some serious goals in each of these areas, however, I really just want to work on the following things without stressing about it.
Throughout the year I want to ask myself, “What can I do today to improve myself by 1% more than yesterday [in health, personal finances, etc.]?” And then I can refer to these lists to see what I can do to get better.
This list shares what I want to do more (or less) of in my personal development, but be sure to also check out what I want to do for my finances and health!
More meditating
My journey with meditation is always changing. I go through phases where I really feel like meditating but I also go through phases where I sit down to meditate and I literally can’t stand it and I cut my session short (or I just don’t do it at all). However, I do believe meditation is very powerful and it’s something I want to make a habit out of. I attend a meditation session just about every Wednesday, in 2018 I missed many days, so in 2019 I want to go to as many Wednesday sessions as possible. Meditating daily is always on my mind, so I do want to get back into it even if it’s just 5 minutes. I won’t stress myself out about it though!
More living in the moment
In 2018 I read ‘The Power of Now’ by Eckhart Tolle. This book was really difficult for me to read because I had trouble grasping what he was trying to explain. The thing is, I think I’m starting to get it. It’s really not that complicated, it just takes some effort. I want to practice gratitude during my daily life. I tend to look forward to the future and dwell on the past too much. I can honestly say that my life is really good right now, I have SO much to be grateful for NOW and I think that’s all it takes. I’m exactly where I need to be.
More reading
I read about 12 books in 2018. Ideally I would like to read daily and maybe double this amount?? There is no shortage of books on my wish list and I just love reading!
More journaling
Occasionally I journal, especially if I’m feeling down. However, I would like to journal at least weekly (ideally daily) so I can write about my personal progress, my goals. things I’m grateful for, my habits, and so on. Writing down goals and actually tracking things has been proven to yield better results. I love working on myself and I just keep wanting to get better!
More getting out of my comfort zone
Everyone loves their comfort zone, and I am no exception. I am a huge home body, so one thing I have been doing is saying Yes to going out/spending time with friends more. There are multiple ways I can start stepping out of my comfort zone though, especially at my full-time job. I will have to present soon (which I’m highly afraid of) and I have SO much to learn there. Something good always comes from making myself uncomfortable.
More painting
I loveee painting as it’s so meditative for me. I’ve found that I spend a lot of my free time working on my blog and YouTube. That’s great, but I definitely want to make more time for my other creative outlets. I have several canvases and bottles of paint sitting in my closet waiting to be used!
Practice Spanish
My boyfriend is Colombian. He speaks english but it would be easier to speak with his family in Spanish. I took 3 years of spanish in high school but hardly maintained any of it. The app DuoLingo is free and makes it easier to learn so I want to improve.
More focus/productivity
I have the potential to be SO productive. I struggle with low energy levels and allowing myself to get distracted too easily though. While I am quite productive at home, I could be even better! My phone is a huge distraction and over the last year or so I feel I don’t focus as well anymore because of that. It’s a matter of self-discipline. So if I say I’m going to do something I need to just do it.
Less social media
Which brings me to this point…I love social media because of all the opportunity it provides. It’s not going anywhere and for someone who has an online business it’s actually very important. So while I do want to GROW my social media following, that doesn’t mean I need to scroll through my feed days. I’ll be setting limits on when and how often I allow myself to use social media.
Less “snoozing”
During the week I almost never sleep longer than my original alarm time. I now wake up at 4:30 or 4:40 am every week day. On the weekends it’s been a different story. Some weeks I do great and wake up at 6 on Saturday and Sunday, other times I set my alarm for 6:30 and end up not getting up until 7:30 or later. That leaves me feeling disappointed in myself, plus it takes away from my time to be productive or do things for me!
